RPM to FPM Surface Speed Conversion

In machining and mechanical engineering, RPM tells you how fast something spins, but FPM (feet per minute) shows how fast the surface moves linearly. This is crucial for determining cutting speeds, conveyor belt speeds, and proper tool performance. Converting between these requires knowing the diameter of the rotating object.

The relationship is based on the circumference of the rotating part. Each revolution covers a distance equal to the circumference, and multiplying by RPM gives the speed in distance per minute. Converting to feet gives us the standard FPM measurement used in manufacturing.
