Torque and pressure are related — but not directly interchangeable. Torque measures rotational force, while PSI measures pressure applied over an area. To convert Nm to PSI correctly, we must calculate clamping force first.
Step 1: From Torque to Force
When tightening a bolt, torque produces clamping force. The formula used is:
T = Torque (Nm)
K = Torque coefficient (usually 0.2)
D = Bolt diameter (meters)
Torque = 100 Nm, Bolt diameter = 14mm (0.014m), K = 0.2
