Nm to PSI Calculator

Torque and pressure are related — but not directly interchangeable. Torque measures rotational force, while PSI measures pressure applied over an area. To convert Nm to PSI correctly, we must calculate clamping force first.

Step 1: From Torque to Force

When tightening a bolt, torque produces clamping force. The formula used is:

Torque to Force Formula
F = T ÷ (K × D)
F = Clamping force (N)
T = Torque (Nm)
K = Torque coefficient (usually 0.2)
D = Bolt diameter (meters)
Example:
Torque = 100 Nm, Bolt diameter = 14mm (0.014m), K = 0.2

F = 100 ÷ (0.2 × 0.014) = 35,714 N

Step 2: From Force to Pressure

Pressure is force applied over area:

Pressure Formula
Pressure = Force ÷ Area
PSI Conversion
PSI = Pascals ÷ 6894.76
1 PSI = 6894.76 Pascals

Pro Tip:

An accurate Nm to PSI calculator bridges torque and pressure safely and precisely. By using proper formulas and unit conversions, engineers and mechanics can avoid under-tightening or over-tightening components. Precision isn't optional in mechanical work — it's essential.
